We have securely navigated past the quite movie season into March, the month when things start to pick up.March is a great month to be a moviegoer. Its the month when blockbusters start to surface. These great movies are released now in the hopes of having a great run into the Easter holidays. Latest Movies March 2018 is my list of these movies as well as movies from last year that are being released now on Blu Ray and DVD.
Latest Movies March 2018
March is shaping up to be a good time to be at the movies. But apart from the Latest Movies such as blockbusters and Oscar-winning movies, there’s plenty of terrible movies as well. I managed to narrow down that list a bit here by only including the good stuff. Hopefully, you agree.
- Black Panther
- Tomb Raider
- Pacific Rim Uprising
Black Panther documents the rise of a King. T’Challa is heir to the throne of the kingdom of Wakanda, an isolated African land. He assumes the throne shortly after his father was assassinated Captain America: Civil War. But the infrastructure and people of Wakanda are extremely advanced, due to decades of manipulating Vibranium. This fictional metal is best known for being used in Captain America’s shield. So leading the nation of Wakanda as King T’Challa isn’t enough. The threat of Killmonger is too serious and needs to be dealt with by the Black Panther.
- Chadwick Boseman – T’Challa and Black Panther
- Michael B. Jordan – N’Jadaka and Erik “Killmonger” Stevens
- Lupita Nyong’o – Nakia
- Martin Freeman – Everett K. Ross
- Directed by Ryan Coogler
The movie has been out for a while now and is currently the highest grossing movie of 2018. It has already surpassed the $1Billion mark and is still at number 1 at the box office. The movie has so far received widespread critical acclaim for its cultural impact, costumes, and soundtrack. It’s originality and high production values see the movie as being one of the best Marvel movies ever made. Well, that is what plenty of critics have said since its release.
Tomb Raider is an origin story of Lara Croft, a beloved character from the Tomb Raider game franchise. The story follows Lara on a journey to a mysterious island, which so happens to be the last known location of her Father, Richard Croft. Lara finds herself in one dangerous situation after another. These terrible incidents test her willingness to live and fight back. This fighting spirit will also become Lara’s biggest asset in all of her future endeavours.
- Alicia Vikander – Lara Croft
- Walton Goggins – Mathias Vogel
- Daniel Wu – Lu Ren
- Directed by Roar Uthaug
The movie is closely based on the 2013 Tomb Raider game that successfully rebooted the franchise. The overall look, design, and even story is largely influenced by the game. In most cases, I would say that this is a recipe for disaster. But the game is so good that it may actually be a good thing. The story highlights Lara’s uprising from a troublesome girl with no purpose into a highly skilled fighting machine. Lara experiences her first major wounds and bruises. She also has to learn how to survive on the island by both fighting and scavenging.
Annihilation is a Sci-Fi Horror movie that is based on a 2014 novel of the same name. The Story follows a group of scientists as they explore a mysterious land. This quarantined area is filled with self-mutating life. The land and its creatures are an anomaly that these scientists look to discover. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that these creatures will be friendly,
- Natalie Portman – Lena
- Tessa Thompson – Josie Radek
- Oscar Isaac – Kane
- Directed by Alex Garland
The film has a star-studded cast and a director who is best known for creating excellent Sci-Fi movies. Alex Garland gave us the amazing Judge Dredd movie from 2012 and the superb Ex-Machina which also starred Oscar Isaac. I am hoping that Annihilation will be just as great. So far so good from initial critic reviews with an 87% rating from Rotton Tomatoes. Something worth watching if you are a fan of Sci-Fi movies.
Pacific Rim Uprising
Pacific Rim Uprising is a soon to be released Sci-Fi Action movie. It is the sequel to the 2013 Pacific Rim movie by Guillermo del Toro. The movie takes place 10 years after the original movie. This is during a period when the Kaiju beasts were relinquished from earth. But the breach of the Kaiju has been re-opened and earth is once again threatened by the now evolved Kaiju.
- John Boyega – Jake Pentecost
- Scott Eastwood – Nate Lambert
- Charlie Day – Dr Newt Geiszler
- Directed by Steven S. DeKnight
The first movie is a very enjoyable movie. It is also a visually spectacular movie that is in keeping with Guillermo del Toro’s excellent vision in regards to creatures and Sci-Fi. It may not have done as well as they hoped it would do. But the movie is very enjoyable with great performances from Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba. Unfortunately, these guys and Guillermo the Director will not return for the sequel.
Ready Player One
Ready Player One is a highly anticipated Epic Sci-Fi movie. The film is set in a dystopian future. Members of society participate heavily in a virtual reality world (OASIS) in order to escape their tragic real-world situation. The owner and creator of OASIS have just passed away and his last wish is for someone to find a hidden easter egg within the world that he has created. The person who does come across the easter egg will be rewarded with the creator’s entire fortune.
- Tye Sheridan – Wade Watts / Parzival
- Olivia Cooke – Samantha Cook / Art3mis
- Ben Mendelsohn – Nolan Sorrento
- Lena Waithe – Helen Harris / Aech
- T.J. Miller – i-R0k
Steven Spielberg makes his Sci-Fi return with Ready Player One. The movie is based on a book that is written by Ernest Cline. Spielberg is known for being an avid gamer. he owns all types of consoles and has a bit of an obsession with gaming. This gives you a sense of authenticity behind the making of this movie. The reviews on this movie have been positive so far.
