Pioneer has delivered yet another brilliant car stereo. This time it is the sleek flagship level Pioneer DEH-80PRS. This single din player has an elegant minimalistic design that will suit almost any vehicles interior dash. But don’t let the minimal looks fool you, this stereo has almost every feature you can imagine and more. Let’s take a closer look at this awesome device in my Pioneer DEH-80PRS Review.
Pioneer DEH-80PRS Review
The face of the DEH-80PRS is absolutely clean with minimal buttons and no slots. But upon removing the detachable face, you will find a CD slot as well as an SD Card slot. If none of these interest you, then you can take advantage of the players Bluetooth function. This will allow you to connect your smartphone wirelessly to the DEH-80PRS. Once connected, you will be able to stream music from your smartphone, as well as take calls.
Personally, I prefer listening to music that’s stored on my smartphone. I have a massive SD card already installed on my smartphone. This SD card is home to my enormous library of music that I have collected over the last 2 decades. That being said, it is great that there is an option for CD and SD cards. Especially when it is hidden under the detachable face.
There are an additional 2 USB ports at the rear of the single din unit. Connecting an iPhone here will give the stereo access to the smartphones music library as well as supply a charge. This is a neat feature that I have used in the past. You can also get App control for the supported Spotify and Pandora apps.
Because of the limited amount of buttons on the Pioneer DEH-80PRS, most of the features are hidden within the menu. These features can be easily accessed with the lever that is around the volume knob. One of my favourite features is the 2 zone illumination. You can make the display and the key a different colour. You can select the colour that you feel will match your cars interior best. There is also an option to display wallpapers.
If you wish to dive deep into the sound of the Pioneer DEH-80PRS, then you can start out with the 16-band equaliser. Presets are available and you can adjust manually if you please. This single din unit also has a smart EQ feature built in. You can connect the included microphone to the AUX-input and start Auto EQ on the unit. Place the microphone in the driver’s seat and leave the car. The unit will then auto-calibrate the EQ to suit the car.

The Pioneer DEH-80PRS is marketed as a player that is made for Audiophiles. You are not just limited to the in-depth EQ settings as stated above. There are a few more settings that you can tweak here in order to get the exact sound that you are looking for. The DEH-80PRS has an Active 3 Way Crossover Network. This functions similar to a multiband dynamic EQ or compressor. You can go as deep as adjusting the high pass filter on the high end (treble) and the low pass filter on the low bass end. This helps separate the frequencies further to assist in restricting any sort of distortion.
The deck has 3 stereo outputs in the form of RCA outputs which can be connected to speakers. You can also connect up to 3 amplifiers here. This will enable maximum control of your sound. You can hookup individual pairs of tweeters, mids, and subs and use the crossover network to allocate your desired sound to these individual speakers.
Another new feature of this unit is Auto Time Alignment. You can once again make use of the supplied microphone to calibrate the time at which sound is released from the speakers. Speakers that are further away will play audio faster than closer speakers so that the sound reaches the driver’s ears are in perfect sync.
Should You Get a Pioneer DEH-80PRS?
This is an absolutely incredible single din unit that will definitely satisfy all of your needs. It also has an extended purpose in regards to sound quality. This gives this unit the edge over other units because of the extra crossover and sub utilities that are built in. If you own Apple smartphones and devices, then you can make use of the extra functionality available.
All of these epic features do, however, come with a price. The Pioneer DEH-80PRS is expensive and won’t make many peoples budget. Also, there isn’t that much support for those who own Android smartphones, just Bluetooth. But if cost isn’t an issue and you are looking for something to drive your cars competition sound, then this is the deck for you.
