After 2 ultra successful Star Wars movies released in December 2015 and 2016, its now time for the long wait for the 2017 movie. And this time it’s back to the original movie franchise for the eight time. Star Wars 8 will continue from the marvelous Episode 7 The Force Awakens. But this time in a slightly different direction in the hands of the franchise’s new Director, Rian Johnson. There has been a lot of buzz surrounding this movie and an overall great response to the Star Wars franchise of late. This is why I have put together some of the best things that I have heard so far about this movie.
Update: 14 December 2017 – Star Wars The last Jedi has recieved an overwhelming amount of praise from critics during its pre-release screenings. Some critics are saying that this movie is among the best Star Wars Movies of the franchise.
Rian Johnson Knows the Title of the Movie
In a recent interview, Director and Writer Rian Johnson mentioned that he already knows the title of Star Wars 8. He even goes as far as saying that he has known this for a few years now. He came up with it during the first draft of the movie. A lot of the director’s work has had one name titles. Is it a possibility that the next Star Wars movie will have a single word title? We are approaching the first trailer or teaser of the movie and will soon know for sure.
Rian Johnson has been in the movie industry since the early 2000’s. His written and directed the excellent Looper movie. He has also directed other notable movies such as Brick and The Brothers Bloom. He also worked on the critically acclaimed Breaking Bad TV series in which he has directed 3 episodes.
Plot Details on Episode 8
The latest big news on the tone of the film is that it won’t be “dark”. There has been speculation that the movie will be similar in tone to Empire Strikes back, which was pretty dark when compared to the other movies in the trilogy. Rian Johnson has however confirmed that the movie will be just as fun and adventurous as The Force Awakens.
The Director has also discussed some of the plots with USA Today. Much of the emphasis of the movie will be on Luke Skywalker and Rey. He says that it could just take off right after The Force Awakens. We will probably get to see Luke’s first words since they have met. Luke will be the heart of the story. So we will get to know more about them in this movie.
Seeing that Mark Hamill is the only main actor left from the Big 3 (after Carrie Fisher’s death), it is a possibility that they may not kill off his character yet. He will definitely train Rey (Daisy Ridley), but will hopefully not be killed off afterward. Carrie Fisher’s death has raised a lot of questions about the future plot of the Star Wars Movies. Does her Leia character reunite with her brother Luke or her son Kylo Ren. If so, will the 3rd movie in this latest series of movies feature a re-cast CGI character?
Kylo Ren is Badly Injured
We saw part of Kylo Ren’s transformation to The Dark Side in The Force Awakens. This was when you killed his Father, Han Solo. Luke Skywalker passed this test when he chose not to kill his father, Darth Vader. The next thing that Kylo Ren needs to tick off his Dark Side list is physical decapitation. His crippled mentor Darth Vader lost most of his limbs after being badly burned on the planet of Mustafar. Vader barely escaped with his life and became the half man half machine lord of the dark side. Even Palpatine gave away some of his physical appearances in order to fully take control of The Dark Side.
It is a possibility that Kylo Ren would have escaped within an inch of his life and is now being rebuilt physically in order to pursue Rey and Luke on the island Ahch-To. How much of his deformity is unknown. It is also possible that he may not be too badly injured and will suffer much more harsh injuries in the Star Wars 8 climax.
Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi
It has been confirmed that the title of the next Star Wars 8 Movie will be Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi. When I saw this, the first thing I taught about was Luke Skywalker being the last Jedi. But the word Jedi is either plural or singular. It could mean that there is a group of Jedi such as Rey, Luke, and even Finn. It is a great title and not as over the top as we all would have expected.
